Updates on teams and competition.
The 2016/2017 RJC basketball season was one of major growth. Coach Mitch Dahl took our crew of 12 girls with mixed experience all the way to conference championships and sealed the deal with a win over Stobart in Duck Lake. They advanced to Regional playoffs in Canora, but lost out in a tough, but even match to the home team in the first game on Friday. Congratulations to all of our graduating players and good luck to all those who will continue to be part of RJC Basketball in the years to come.
Last weekend, the boys basketball team headed off to regional playoffs in Maidstone. The first game, saw Rosthern Junior College face off against Meath Park. The game was neck and neck through 3 quarters, but Meath Park made some clutch 3 pointers to pull away for good in the fourth quarter. In the bronze medal match, RJC faced Canora, and a similar storyline took place. After three quarters, the game was within a few points, but Canora made some highlight reel shots to take the win. Congratulations to the team on a good season with a tournament win and another 2 tournament final appearances.
RJC fielded three full curling teams this year entering a Boys’, Girls’, and Mixed team in the conference playoffs in Aberdeen. Players practiced each Wednesday and competed in some games with other schools throughout the season. The Girls’ and Mixed teams played well during conference playoffs, but faced some stiff competition and did not advance to Regionals. The Boys’, however, found a way to advance and competed in Prince Albert the following week before their season came to and end.
