The 2017-2018 school year culminated in a flurry of activity! The pace was intense and even crazy at times! The month of June consisted of year ending SRC and dorm activities, musical practices, exam preparations and Graduation planning. All of this drew the RJC community even closer as emotions were high as we approached the end of the year. Combining a musical performance with Grad Weekend may sound crazy but it actually is a satisfying and meaningful way to end our time together this school year. It allows for the uniqueness of the RJC community to shine even brighter.
Life before leaving for ALSO was so crazy and exciting that it was hard to imagine life resuming to a normal pace after returning from Guatemala, Alabama, Calgary, Oliver and Saskatoon. After resting for ...maybe a day ... just long enough to be thankful for safe travels and wonderful and varied experiences.... we jumped back into the 'normal' hectic pace of RJC.
The grade 11 and grade 10 class immediately began planning the annual JR-SR event. This event marks the beginning of the end of the year as the Juniors celebrate the accomplishments of the Senior class and show their appreciation for all the Grade 12's contributed to making this year so successful. This year's theme was 'RJSea Cruises'. We spent the evening traveling the world and experiencing different activities in different countries!
Much groundwork is done to prepare the students hearts and minds to be open to what they will see and experience during ALSO week. The experiences are varied but all explore themes of service, peace, discipleship and justice. This year’s theme was the ‘Upside Down Kingdom’. Beginning early in the year Chapels were dedicated to exploring the theme. As well, the Faith and Life Committee organized a student fundraiser where students were asked to raise money in creative ways to support programs in all of the ALSO locations. This year’s fundraiser was called Adventopoly. Each ALSO group then took a portion of the money raised to donate to different organization at each of the ALSO locations. With everything finally in place and with much excitement and anticipation, the entire student body departed for one of the 5 locations in the 3rd week of April.
