There are opportunities such as touring choirs, coffee houses and a variety of workshops. RJC also hosts Winter Theatre and a year-end musical which enables many students to become involved in the performing arts through acting, singing, lighting, choreography, set design and building.
Each year the RJC choirs release an album of performance highlights, and are available online. They can be purchased directly here or on the CDBaby website. Prices are in USD. Some albums can be downloaded using a code purchased at the RJC office ($10 CDN). Contact RJC about a download code card.
Concert Choir is the largest school choir made up of most of the students at RJC. It is scheduled into the academic day and will earn the singers a Choral 10/20/30 credit depending on their grade level. Typically over 90% of the students sing in this choir. They have major performances at Christmas and in Spring, and a few more through the year. No experience necessary - this is where you get the experience!
Chorale is a small auditioned chamber choir that meets twice a week from October to May. They are the busiest of the choirs, often leading in worship in local churches and carrying the heaviest performance load. It is an extra-curricular choir made up of students who are dedicated to exploring great vocal music.
This is a short-term choir that meets for a few weeks before Christmas to prepare a few songs. They have two major performances - one in Saskatoon (typically at Knox United Church with Chorale) and the RJC Christmas Concert on Campus. It is open to all girls at school and is always a great time!
Every year RJC is priveledged to be supported by alumni. A major event in spring is "Guys & Pies" where the A Buncha Guys (from Saskatoon and made of mostly RJC graduates) is joined by the RJC ManChoir. ManChoir rehearses for a few weeks before Guys & Pies. A successful audition to join ManChoir is as simple as walking through the door into the Rehearsal Hall!
Friday Night Live
A highlight every year is Friday Night Live - a coffee house-style show put on by the RJC students for youth and GenerationNext kids. A little less classical, but a show with oodles of energy!
The Theatre Arts Class is responsible for putting on the Winter Theatre. Join Theatre Arts to learn about the technical details about theatre - through games, role playing, and preparation and presentation of a play.
Every spring RJC presents a full length Broadway-style musical on grad weekend. Past performances have included many well known shows such as operettas by Gilbert and Sulllivan, some of Roger's & Hammersteins most famous works (The Sound of Music, Oklahoma!) Jesus Christ Superstar, Oliver!, Fiddler on the Roof, West Side Story, Seussical the Musical, and more. Some less well known shows have been introduced to great acclaim such as Children of Eden, Anything Goes, Honk! RAGS, and others.
